NBA scores: Celtics fall to the Rockets, 101-89

The Celtics came up short on Friday night against the Houston Rockets.

The Boston Celtics lost to the Houston Rockets on Friday night, 101-89. Paul Pierce had 18 points in the losing effort, and Rajon Rondo scored 15, adding 13 assists. The Houston defense has been weak all season, but the Celtics managed just 89 points on 40 percent shooting. The Rockets were led by James Harden (21 points) and Greg Smith (20 points).

Around the Atlantic division, the Brooklyn Nets defeated the Detroit Pistons, 107-105 in double-overtime. The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Indiana Pacers, 95-85. And the Toronto Raptors avoided an NBA-worst 20th loss by beating the Dallas Mavericks, 95-74.
