If the season ended today, Boston would grab the eighth playoff spot out of the Eastern Conference.
The Boston Celtics (5-4) have fallen into a tie for third place in the Atlantic Division. After the Celtics loss on Thursday, the 76ers pulled even with Boston when Philadelphia beat the Utah Jazz, 99-93, on Friday night.
Boston's loss came at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets, who have now won four games in a row. The Celtics were without point guard Rajon Rondo, and have now lost both of their games within the Atlantic Division. They lost to the 76ers last Friday.
The New York Knicks (6-1) remain atop the division, despite suffering their first defeat on Friday, which came at the hands of the Memphis Grizzlies. On Thursday, however, New York managed to knock off another top team: the San Antonio Spurs.
Around the Eastern Conference, the defending champion Miami Heat (7-3) have shown that they will be just as tough as last year. In addition, the Milwaukee Bucks (5-2) currently lead the Central Division. The Bucks remain relatively untested, as three of their five victories were over teams that currently have a losing record.
