Red Sox Vs. Yankees Final Score: Sox Suffer 10-3 Defeat As Yankees Rout Aaron Cook

The Red Sox were handed a heavy defeat Friday night as the Yankees hit three homers against Boston pitching, leaving them losers in a 10-3 rout.

The game got off to a positive offensive start for Boston when Dustin Pedroia took a 3-2 Phil Hughes fastball into the stands in left for a solo shot and a 1-0 lead. The Sox would put two men in scoring position afterwards, but Jarrod Saltalamacchia struck out to end the inning.

The Yankees, however, struck back in a hurry. With runners on the corners and one out in the bottom of the first, Aaron Cook got a ground out from Mark Teixeira, but the Sox could not turn two. A run came in to score through the back door, and the next batter, Raul Ibanez, hit a line drive shot to the short porch in right to put the Yankees ahead 3-1.

The Sox would get one back in the third when Carl Crawford caught a hanging curveball and hit a big solo shot to right, but the Yankees would respond immediately with a sacrifice fly after a busted defensive play up the middle of the infield.

The Sox would once again grab a run when Jarrod Saltalamacchia gave the sox a third solo shot, but Cook's night would end in the fourth after another homer--this time of the two-run variety--put the Yankees ahead 6-3.

Phil Hughes would finally settle down from there, giving the retiring the Sox one-by-one through the end of the seventh. While Franklin Morales and Andrew Miller would keep them within three until the bottom of the eighth, when Mark Melancon fell apart, offering up a grand slam to Curtis Granderson that put the Sox in a completely insurmountable hole.
