The costume for the Boston Red Sox mascot, Wally the Green Monster, has been found after a reported theft of the costume from Fenway Park (via CBS Boston). The initial call to the police about the theft occurred at 2:22 p.m. on Friday.
The whole event seems to have been a misunderstanding.
Officers say the person who took the costume is a Red Sox employee who "neglected to inform the proper supervisor."
The Red Sox told WBZ-TV that the employee set out with the intention of spreading good cheer throughout Boston.
When the employee left the stadium (and stopped along Boylston Street to pose for pictures and visit an Apple store) a security officer noticed the missing costume and alerted authorities. Boston Police have made no arrests. Wally the Green Monster has been the mascot for the Red Sox since 1997.
The Red Sox are preparing to play the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Friday night.
