John Perreault, Leominster Policeman, Placed On Leave After Racial Remark Directed At Red Sox' Carl Crawford

John Perreault, the Leominster police officer who made a racial remark toward Boston Red Sox outfielder Carl Crawford during a rehab game, has been suspended and is facing a potential five-day suspension without pay, according to CBS Boston.

The decision was announced by Leominster mayor Dean Mazzarella on Wednesday. Perrault, who is 38-year-old officer, is believed to have directed a racial slur at Crawford during a rehab game with the Portland Sea Dogs in Manchester, New Hampshire.

More punishment may be coming for Perreault, as the Chief Of Police in Leominster is "seeking harsher punishment" according to the CBS Boston report, which cites that the police chief believes Perreault's actions were out of line for an officer of the law. However, further punishment would only come after a hearing.

Crawford, who recently made his return to the Red Sox lineup after nagging injuries kept him sidelined for the first half of the season, is off to a quick start, hitting .571 with an RBI in two games and went 3-for-4 with three steals in Boston's 7-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night.
