Red Sox Vs. Cubs: Josh Beckett To Miss Start Sunday, Morales To Start Instead

Stay connected for news and updates

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett will miss his scheduled start against the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, sitting out the game due to inflammation in his right shoulder.

Beckett is 4-7 with a 4.14 ERA in 12 starts this season. In comments to the team's official website, manager Bobby Valentine said Beckett would stay on the roster but may undergo tests over the weekend:

"He may get some tests," Valentine said. "I think they want to do a baseline [exam] to figure out where we are with that whole situation, so there might be tests."

Reliever Franklin Morales will pitch in Beckett's place. Morales is 0-1 this season with a 3.04 ERA over 23.2 innings with opponents batting .236 against the left hander.
