Red Sox Vs. Cubs Final Score: Boston Blanked 3-0 By Chicago In Series Opener

The Boston Red Sox were defeated 3-0 by the Chicago Cubs in the teams' series opener at Wrigley Field.

Cubs starting pitcher Ryan Dempster was dominant on Friday, throwing seven scoreless innings and giving up only four hits in the win. Daisuke Matsuzaka got the start for Boston in the loss. He lasted six innings, giving up four hits and three earned runs. Matsuzaka also struck out three and walked three. James Russell got a hold for the Cubs for a scoreless eighth inning and Carlos Marmol picked up his third save of the season on 29 pitches in the ninth inning, allowing one hit and one walk while recording a strikeout.

The scoring was limited in this game but the Cubs got it done early with two runs in the first inning and one more run in the second. Steve Clevenger hit an RBI double. David DeJesus drove in the other run with an RBI single.

Despite three errors by the Cubs, Boston left 11 men on base and was only 1-10 with runners in scoring position.
