Initial reports indicated Matsuzaka had been experiencing tightness in the shoulder since his previous start. Daisuke's rehab start on Thursday was his longest outing to date, he went 6.2 innings and allowed four earned runs. Two of his runs were off of homeruns allowed including off of the first batter he faced.
Matsuzaka's rehab was scheduled to end on Wednesday, the injury allows for the Red Sox to restart his 30 day rehab process. The Japanese pitcher received Tommy John surgery on his elbow last June and has been working towards a return to the rotation.
