Carl Crawford Injury Update: Setback Keeps Outfielder Out Of Batting Practice

Carl Crawford experienced an injury setback this week and did not take any swings Friday, according to the Boston Globe, when pain in his surgically repaired left wrist became too harsh.

Crawford had been taking swings throughout spring training, but the Boston Red Sox outfielder started to feel pain during bunting drills on Wednesday and has been placed on medication to control swelling in his wrist.

"I'm always concerned when there's a setback. I don't know how bad it is. But according to the doctor it doesn't look that bad," Crawford said. "I was feeling real good, too. I wasn't expecting this."

The outfielder said his setback might have been the result of attempting too many bunts.

"I think it was from all that bunting. I did a lot of extra bunting," he said. "I was doing a lot this week."

Crawford said last week he hoped to return for opening day, but it's unclear how this setback will impact those plans.
