The Kevin Millwood experiment in Boston has ended before it even began. Millwood has been released by the Boston Red Sox without even making one appearance in a game for the team. He spent his entire time with the club at the AAA level in Pawtucket, and as WEEI.com's Rob Bradford points out, wasn't terribly effective.
The 36-year-old had appeared in 13 games with the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox, going 5-1 with a 4.28 ERA. In 73 2/3 innings, Millwood struck out 66 and walked 25, with the PawSox going 11-2 in his starts. He last pitched Friday night, allowing four runs on eight hits over six innings against Buffalo. Millwood has a lifetime record of 159-137 in 414 games. Last season, Millwood was 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA and 132 strikeouts in 190.2 innings pitched throughout 31 starts.
