Red Sox' David Ortiz Will Reportedly Appeal Four Game Suspension

David Ortiz will reportedly appeal his four-game suspension issued on Thursday for his role in an altercation with Baltimore Orioles pitcher Kevin Gregg in a game last Friday. In case you forgot, here's what happened.

The suspension stems from incident in a game on July 9 between the Sox and Orioles when Ortiz was brushed back and subsequently yelled at by O's reliever Kevin Gregg. Ortiz ultimately charged after Gregg, leading to a fight between the two with both benches clearing. Both players were suspsended four games by MLB earlier on Thursday. (via WEEI)

Gregg was also suspended four games, O's pitcher Mike Gonzalez was suspended three games and manager Buck Showalter was slapped with a one-game suspension. Fines were also handed out to several players on both sides stemming from the incident.

Ortiz is batting .304 with 19 home runs and 55 RBI in 87 games this year for Boston.
