Matt Humphrey and the Boston College Eagles held their own for nearly all of Wednesday night's game, but as they have often done in recent games, they fell off in the end, losing to the N.C. State Wolfpack, 56-51, at Conte Forum.
Humphrey led the Eagles (7-15) with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Lonnie Jackson totaled 10 points, Ryan Anderson had eight points and both Dennis Clifford and Gabe Moton scored six apiece for Boston College, which shot 38 percent in the loss.

Boston College trailed by two points at halftime, 25-23, and was outscored 31-28 in the second half. Humphrey made a three-pointer late in the second half that put the Eagles on top by two, 40-38, but N.C. State squashed the momentum.

Boston College and N.C. State met once already this season on Jan. 19. The Eagles fell behind early and trailed 45-28 at the break. Dennis Clifford led the Eagles with 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals as BC shot 40.3 percent from the field.
The Eagles and Wolfpack have met 12 times, with BC holding an 8-4 advantage. Since joining the ACC in the 2005-06 season, Boston College is 5-4 against N.C. State and has won three straight home games against the Wolfpack despite losing three of the last four games after capturing a home win in the season series opener at home last year.
BC is coming off a 76-54 loss to the Miami Hurricanes on Jan. 29. Matt Humphrey had a solid offensive game, scoring a team-high 13 points while grabbing five rebounds for Boston College, which shot 39.5 percent from the floor. Ryan Anderson and Daniels both scored nine points and Lonnie Jackson, who had a technical foul, added eight points.
N.C. State lost a heartbreaker, 61-60, to the Virginia Cavaliers in its last game. Mike Scott, a candidate for ACC Player of the Year, scored 18 to lead the Wolfpack and both Sammy Zeglinski and Joe Harris scored 12 points for Virginia. C.J. Leslie scored a team-high 17 points while Richard Howell had a monster game, amassing 11 points and 18 rebounds.
Boston College heads on the road to face the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their next game, which takes place at 1:00 p.m. EDT on February 4 (ESPNU).
