NFL Draft 2012: Luke Kuechly Vs. Vontaze Burfict

When discussing linebackers who will taken high in the 2012 NFL draft, both Luke Kuechly and Vontaze Burfict will inevitably find their way into the discussion.

In a piece by NFLdraftseason.com, both are compared to try and determine who's the better prospect.

While the article finally decides on Burfict being the choice, I tend to respectfully disagree. It's a very well written piece with many good points, but I'll take the smarter and more productive player any day of the week.

Kuechly made an astonishing 191 tackles last year compared to Burfict's 68. That's an incredible difference in production that just can't be ignored. On top of that, Burfict has had major issues with keeping his focus and not hurting his team with dumb penalties. His talent is unquestioned, but neither is his pension for coming unglued.

As pointed out, the one thing that hurts Kuechly is he appears to be strictly a 4-3 inside type. However, if a team who runs that scheme is in need of an upgrade there, they would be wise to take a long look at the Boston College product.
