Matt Humphrey scored a team-high 13 points, but his performance was not enough to carry the Boston College Eagles (7-14, 2-5 ACC) past the Miami Hurricanes (12-7, 3-3 ACC) in a 76-54 loss on Sunday in Chestnut Hill, MA.
CHESTNUT HILL - Matt Humphrey's solid shooting performance wasn't enough to carry the Boston College Eagles to victory, as the Miami Hurricanes pulled away late in the second half to capture a 76-54 win on Sunday afternoon.
Humphrey finished with a team-high 13 points on 3-of-8 shooting and 3-of-5 shooting from the perimeter for Boston College, which was limited to 38.6 percent shooting from the floor in defeat. Ryan Anderson and Jordan Daniels each scored nine points and Lonnie Jackson had eight points for the Eagles.
Durand Scott paced the Hurricanes, scoring a game-high 19. Malcolm Grant added 16 points and Kenny Kadji had 14 points, seven rebounds and two blocks. Reggie Johnson finished with 12 points and five boards for Miami, which hit 42.9 percent of its baskets.
Boston College returns to action Wednesday when it hosts ACC foe N.C. State.

CHESTNUT HILL - Reggie Johnson made his presence felt in the first half, asserting himself on both sides of the ball to finish the half with 10 points, four rebounds and a block as the Miami Hurricanes took a 34-31 lead over the Boston College Eagles at the break here at Conte Forum.
Johnson was the only player to reach double-digit scoring for Miami, which made 14-of-36 field goals to shoot 38.9 percent. Durand Scott and Kenny Kadji each scored seven points while DeQuan Jones and Trey McKinney Jones each finished the half with six points apiece for the Hurricanes.
Matt Humphrey led the Eagles with nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from long range for Boston College, which shot at a 42.3 percent clip in the half. Jordan Daniels had seven points and Ryan Anderson added six points, three boards and two assists for the Eagles.

What started out as promise has quickly returned to struggle, as many had expected. After the Boston College Eagles won two of their first three Atlantic Coast Conference games, the young squad had many thinking their rise to respectability in the ACC would not take as long as projected. But reality quickly set in, and the tough times have returned once more.
Losers of their last three conference tilts, the Eagles will host the Miami Hurricanes as they try to creep back to .500 in the ACC at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday afternoon at Conte Forum in Chestnut Hill, MA (TV/Radio: ACC Network (TV38)/WEEI).
Boston College and Miami have met 37 times, with the Eagles holding a 24-13 advantage. BC is 8-6 against Miami since joining the ACC in the 2005-06 season and the Eagles won 13 straight games from 2000 through 2008. Last year, Miami won both games against the Eagles and have defeated BC five times in the last seven meetings.
The Eagles are coming off a 66-49 loss to the No. 21 ranked Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday. Ryan Anderson led BC with 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Eagles shot 40 percent from the field. Dennis Clifford had eight points and four boards.
Miami won its last game but has three of its last five. The Hurricanes defeated the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, 64-49, on Jan. 24. Kenny Kadji led the team with 21 points and eight rebounds as Miami shot 48.1 percent in the win. Malcolm Grant had 16 points and Reggie Johnson added eight points and seven rebounds for the Hurricanes.
Boston College plays host to the N.C. State Wolfpack in its next game on Feb. 1.

Patrick Heckmann Out For One Month

Patrick Heckmann missed the Boston College Eagles' game against the Miami Hurricanes on Sunday with mono, and head coach Steve Donahue says that he will likely be out for the entire month or February and possibly more.
"Patrick has mono," Donahue confirmed after the game."It's going to be a long time,probably the whole month of February without him, so we get him back in March."
Heckmann started off strong or Boston College and was the team's leading scorer through the opening portion of the season, but recent struggles have cost Heckmann his starting position and playing time. As of Sunday, Heckmann is averaging 9.1 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
