Boston College Football Training Camp: Andre Williams Injures Ankle

BC sophomore running back Andre Williams suffered an ankle injury that forced him out of the Boston College Eagles football team's third scrimmage on Sunday at Alumni Stadium.

Williams' condition has not yet been released, and it is not known how much time, if any, the junior back will miss. This is yet another blow to BC's backfield, which will be without star Montel Harris for 3-4 weeks as he continues to recover from a knee injury. With Harris and Williams gone, BC Interruption explores the Eagles' options now.

With two Boston College running backs shelved, who is left? Tahj Kimble and Rolandan Finch who have a combined 7 rushes for 28 yards in their collegiate careers. Losing Harris was a tough, but he was replaceable. Now down the only two running backs with experience, expectations from our running game is getting a little hairy. Is BC going to have to stick with the pass the first week or will a useable running back emerge from Kimble and Finch. (via BC Interruption)

Boston College Football Training Camp: BC Completes Third Scrimmage

Nate Freese connected on a 52-yard field goal to wrap up the Boston College Eagles football team's third scrimmage of the preseason on Sunday evening at Alumni Stadium. Freese also made a 27-yard field goal but missed his first field goal from 39 yards out.

This scrimmage featured "six game-simulated fourth-quarter situations in which the offense and defense squared off with limited time on the clock as well as a limited number of timeouts," according to BCEagles.com.

Chase Rettig was solid for the third straight scrimmage, throwing for 180 yards and a touchdown on 11-of-22 passing, but did throw an interception. The touchdown pass came on a 44-yard pass to wideout Alex Amidon, who finished with three catches for a team-high 91 yards.

Nick Clancy, a junior linebacker, had five tackles (four tackles for a loss) and one pass break up, and told BCEagles.com following the scrimmage that he is happy playing inside the ball.

"I like playing inside the ball, being able to move left and right," Clancy said after the scrimmage. "It frees me up to make plays. I don't know what it was, but when I was lining up, I was just feeling comfortable."

Rolandan Finch led the Eagles' running backs with 44 yards on 13 carries and Andre Williams rushed for 42 yards on seven carries, including an 18-yard rush on the opening drive. Unfortunately, Williams was removed from practice due to an ankle injury, leaving the Eagles without their top two running backs (Montel Harris is the other).

Colin Larmond Jr. had three catches for 48 yards and Bobby Swigert had three catches for 22 yards. Linebacker Andre Lawrence had five tackles for the Eagles and defensive back C.J. Jones tallied four stops. Luke Kuechly was one of three players who had three tackles in the scrimmage.

BC opens the regular season against Northwestern on Saturday, September 3.

Boston College Football Training Camp: Rettig Shines In Scrimmage

Chase Rettig was very polished in the Boston College Eagles' first scrimmage of the season, completing 12-of-19 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns at Alumni Stadium on Saturday evening.

"I thought there were some good things. It's like a jigsaw puzzle with all the pieces in the box; they're not connected yet," BC head coach Frank Spaziani told BCEagles.com. "We've made progress, but we still have a way to go."

Rettig's longest strike of the day was a 30-yard toss to senior wideout Colin Larmond Jr. In addition, Rettig completed passes of at least 10 yards six times, prompting praise from Spaziani.

"I think Chase showed the progress he's been making," Spaziani told BCEagles.com. "The obvious things were fine; there were some subtle things he needs to work on."

Larmond led all receivers with three catches for 53 yards, Bobby Swigert had three catches for 33 yards and Donte Elliot collected 37 receiving yards on three catches.

Junior quarterbacks Dave Shinskie and Mike Marscovetra backed up Rettig, with Shinskie completing 4-of-5 passes for 38 yards and one touchdown while Marscovetra completed 6-of-9 passes for 30 yards and a touchdown.

Rolandan Finch led the Eagles' running backs with 30 rushing yards on 10 carries. Montel Harris, who is poised to become the Eagles' all-time leading rusher this season, did not take part in the scrimmage as he continues to heal from an injury suffered late last season.

Linebacker Nick Clancy and defensive back Sean Sylvia each had four tackles.
