The Pioneers led 2-0 for the first couple of minutes as the Eagles couldn't get their shots to fall. A Dennis Clifford dunk gave Boston College their first lead at 6-4 at the 17:08 mark. The dunk kick-started a 10-2 run. The Eagles went cold again and allowed Sacred Heart to get back into the contest before the halfway mark of the first half.

The Pioneers didn't go away but the Eagles made enough shots to keep their cushion down the stretch. A Matt Humphrey layup with 4:22 left to play extended the lead to 33-24.
