The Boston Celtics are contemplating "a strong offer" to Chicago Bulls restricted free agent Omer Asik, reports Sam Smith of Bulls.com.
Smith reports that the Houston Rockets might also show interest in Asik. Other teams that have been linked to the 7-foot-0, 255-pound center include the Golden St. Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers.
Asik averaged 3.1 points and 5.3 rebounds in just 14.7 minutes per game last season in the crowded Chicago frontcourt. He's known as a defensive presence who crashes the boards and could potentially blossom in a greater role.
With Joakim Noah, Carlos Boozer and Taj Gibson already on board, it's unclear how much the Bulls are willing to spend to retain Asik.
The Celtics, who have just four players under contract for the 2012-13 season, are in need of a big man. But because of Asik's status as a restricted free agent, they might have to overpay to acquire him.
