The Boston Celtics are reportedly close to signing free agent center Sean Williams (via ESPN Boston).
Sean Williams was a standout for the Boston College Eagles before being drafted in 2007 by the New Jersey Nets. He was waived by the Dallas Mavericks on March 22, just one day before the NBA Playoff eligibility deadline, which makes him eligible for this season's playoffs.
Williams only played eight games for the Mavericks this season while spending the bulk of his season playing for the D-League Texas Legends. In his eight games with the Mavericks, Williams averaged 3.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.1 minutes per game.
The former first round NBA Draft pick
is scheduled to join the Celtics in Atlanta and will be in uniform for Boston's game Friday night against the Hawks
In addition, Boston is reportedly releasing Jermaine O'Neal, whose season was ended by wrist surgery, to make room for Williams.
