NBA Trade Rumors: Boston Celtics Seem Set As Deadline Day Arrives

Deadline day has arrived in the NBA, and so far it has been relatively quiet (as far as actual deals are concerned). The only major trade we've seen so far came between the Warriors and Bucks, with Golden State shipping Monta Ellis, Ekpe Udoh and Kwame Brown to Milwaukee for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson.

Of course, there has been plenty of chatter surrounding Dwight Howard. Wednesday was a painful reminder that Twitter has changed the reporting game for good, as we heard a plethora of conflicting reports about whether or not Howard was going to waive his opt-out clause. The latest credible reports have Howard staying for another year, but it's not official.

And at last, we come to the Big Four and our beloved Boston Celtics.

The Celtics haven't been able to escape the rumor mill. Rajon Rondo has drawn the most attention, as has been the case for the past few years. It all started this summer when Rondo was rumored to be part of a package to land then Hornets guard Chris Paul in Boston. Alas, it didn't go through. Then we've had the Rondo for Pau Gasol rumors.

The Big Three have been involved in rumors, too. Reports have tagged Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett as targets of other teams. Pierce was reportedly offered up by the Celtics to the Blazers and one report said he was the most likely Celtic to be on the move by the deadline. Allen has drawn interest, as has Garnett to a lesser extent.

Despite the rumors, Celtics head coach Doc Rivers doesn't think there will be moves.

"I would be surprised if we're not [fully intact]. But you never know. Last year I may have made that statement and we traded nine guys," quipped Celtics coach Doc Rivers, referencing how Boston traded five players, including starting center Kendrick Perkins, at last year's deadline. "I mean this thing goes pretty quickly, I guess you're telling me that Dwight [Howard] is going to be back in play, so you never know." (via ESPN Boston)

What will Danny Ainge do? No one can accurately predict, but we shall find out soon.
