Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving led Team Chuck to a 146-133 victory over Team Shaq in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Friday night by scoring 34 points, making eight three-pointers, in the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. as part of the NBA's All-Star Weekend.
Irving only missed one shot throughout the entire game, going 12 for 13, and was perfect from three-point range. He's the second rookie in consecutive years to win the game's MVP award as Washington Wizards second-year player won the award last year when he was a rookie.
The two biggest names in the game were Clippers sophomore Blake Griffin and Knicks sensation Jeremy Lin, who both played for Team Shaq. Lin and Griffin hooked up for a big alley-oop, and Lin got some of the crowds loudest cheering, even though he was held to only two points.
There wasn't any actual coaching and for the most part the players were left to themselves so there was a lot of three-point shooting and a lot of major dunks, and dunking attempts. This was the second event in the first night of the NBA's All-Star Weekend and we still have a three-point contest, a slam dunk contest and the all-star game itself to watch in the next two days.
