After over twenty minutes of closely contested basketball, the Boston Celtics closed out the second half on a 7-0 run as they took a 49-40 lead, their largest of the game, over the Washington Wizards heading into halftime on Sunday afternoon.
Paul Pierce did it all for the Celtics in the first half, totaling 18 points, seven assists and six rebounds in the half. Mickael Pietrus made two threes off the bench and had eight points while Brandon Bass totaled six points off the pine for Boston, which made 16-of-35 first-half buckets to shoot 45.7 percent.
Ray Allen left the game in the second quarter after suffering rom a jammed left ankle Allen limped back to the locker room with the Celtics trainer, and a report from Comcast SportsNet indicated that the C's would know more on Allen after the break. In 11 minutes, Allen scored seven points on 3-of-5 shooting. In addition, Kevin Garnett had four points at the half.
John Wall scored 14 points and had four rebounds and three assists to lead the Wizards, who are shooting 40.5 percent from the floor. Andray Blatche had eight points and six rebounds and Kevin Seraphin scored four off the bench.
