Mickael Pietrus has cleared waivers and has signed with the Boston Celtics, according to his announcement on Twitter. Pietrus was waived by the Phoenix Suns after a failed trade to the Toronto Raptors and cleared waivers on Saturday night.
"I have decided to be part of the Boston Celtics Family," Pietrus said on Twitter.
Pietrus had been rumored to be leaning heavily towards the Celtics if he cleared waivers. The Celtics had been targeting Pietrus prior to the start of the NBA Lockout but were unable to land him before the work stoppage.
"We are very excited to be able to add Mickael to our team," said Celtics GM Danny Ainge said in a statement (via ESPN). "His skills as a perimeter defender and an outside shooter provide great versatility to the roster."
Pietrus has averaged 8.5 points, 3.1 rebounds and has a career .431 field goal percentage. He began his career with the Golden State Warriors, playing there for five seasons. Pietrus played with the Orlando Magic from 2008 through the 2010-11 season, when he was traded to the Suns. Last season, Pietrus averaged 7.2 points and 2.2 boards in 57 games.
