Tuuka Rask re-signed with the Boston Bruins for one year, $3.5 million on Thursday. Rask is expected to start in net for 2012-13 season.

Tuuka Rask has re-signed with the Boston Bruins for one year, $3.5 million according to reports. He would have become a restricted free agent on July 1. Rask is expected to be the team's starting goaltender for the 2012-13 season after Tim Thomas announced he would be taking a year off from hockey.

Though Thomas has meant a lot to the Bruins recently, the team should be in fair shape with Rask in net. Rask held the starting job over Thomas during 2009-10 season, before Thomas took it back in 2010-11 to help lead the Bruins to a Stanley Cup. Still, Rask has a career 2.20 goals-against average and posted 2.05 in 23 games last season with a .929 save percentage.

The Bruins still have to tidy up the messy Thomas situation. For now, though, they should feel somewhat more secure about the team going into next season.
