Bruins Vs. Maple Leafs: Boston Buries Toronto, 8-0

The Boston Bruins exploded for eight goals on Monday night. Led by a two-goal night from Benoit Pouliot and dominant work in net from Tim Thomas, the Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs by a final score of 8-0.

Boston will not see Toronto again this season. This win gave the Bruins a sweep of the six-game regular season series between the two teams, something they have not done in 20 years.

Pouliot led the Bruins with two goals. He had one assist in the effort. Brian Rolston led the Bruins in scoring with a total of four points, one goal and three assists. Pouliot assisted Chris Kelly on the first goal of the game, which came at the 2:25 mark in the first period, that stood as the game-winner.

Tim Thomas stopped 13 shots for his fifth shutout of the season. The Maple Leafs worked two goalies into the massacre with equal results. Both James Reimer, the starter, and Jonas Gustavsson, who replaced Reimer in the first period, allowed four goals.

The win was the second straight for Boston, which owns the second spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race behind the New York Rangers.

The Bruins start a three-game swing through the Golden State on Thursday, facing off against San Jose. They play a pair of weekend games against the Kings and the Ducks before coming home next Tuesday.
