New Boston Bruin Mike Mottau's College Hockey History

The Boston Bruins' latest addition, defenseman Mike Mottau, has not just Boston roots (he is a Quincy, MA native,) but is a Boston College hockey legend.

Mottau, who played in Chestnut Hill from 1996-2000, won the 2000 Hobey Baker Award (college hockey's highest honor) over two of his teammates, Jeff Farkas and Brian Gionta. He was the Eagles' second Hobey winner, after David Emma in 1991.

The Eagles' captain also was a two time Walter Brown Award winner, an honor granted to the best American born college hockey player in New England. In 1996, the Thayer Academy alum was rated the fifth best college recruit out of high school.

Mottau was recently named the second best defenseman in Hockey East history by NESN. Analyst Josh Ciocco credited Mottau's leadership as setting the scene for Boston College's current history of successes. Mottau's point tally during his college years didn't hurt his case either - he had 157 points by the end of senior year.
