With just under 24 hours until the NHL Trade Deadline on Monday, the Boston Bruins, like many other contending teams, are scrambling to find some players that could help their team. For the B's, they've been connected to names such as Rick Nash, the most sought after trade target, to Dustin Brown, who looks to be on the outs in Los Angeles after the Kings acquired Jeff Carter.
According to James Murphy of ESPN Boston and Kevin Paul Dupont of the Boston Globe, GM Peter Chiarelli is seeking both a forward and a defenseman before Monday's deadline comes and goes. Sources tell Murphy the B's are taking a long look at three Colorado Avalanche forwards and a "puck moving defenseman". Murphy opines a guy like Lubomir Visnovsky of the Anaheim Ducks as a possibility. More from Murphy:
Meanwhile, a source told ESPN.com Sunday that the Bruins are in the market for a forward and a defenseman, and that the B's have interest in Daniel Winnik, T.J. Galiardi and David Jones -- all three Colorado Avalanche forwards are very much in play. Winnik and Jones are UFAs July 1 while Galiardi is an RFA July 1. The Bruins have interest in possibly dealing for one of them. (via ESPN)
Dupont spoke with Chiarelli late Sunday afternoon to talk about the team's needs and what could be addressed before Monday's deadline. Chiarelli confirmed that his two big targets are both a forward and defeseman but wouldn't break up the core of the team in any deal.
'I think those deals are there to do,'' said Chiarelli. ''You're never sure, but....I'd like to be further along in some of these discussions, down to the short strokes, but yes, right now, I think we are getting closer and there are one or two deals we could close.'
'I've been clear in telling people I've talked to that I don't want to move anyone off our roster.'' (via Boston Globe)
In pure speculation, Dupont believes the B's could be looking for a deal to acquire a former player in forward Samuel Pahlsson of the Blue Jackets and Hurricanes defender Jaroslav Spacek. But again, it's speculation. We should know more tomorrow.

According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Boston Bruins are one of many teams involved in trade discussions with the Los Angeles Kings about acquiring right winger Dustin Brown before next week's NHL Trade Deadline.

With injuries plaguing right wingers Nathan Horton (concussion) and Rich Peverley (MCL) Brown could prove to be a solid acquisition for Boston. This year with the Kings, Brown has 14 goals and 17 assists in 61 games played with the Kings. He's no Rick Nash, but he could be a complementary piece the B's could add to one of their middle lines.
Los Angeles acquired forward Jeff Carter earlier this week, which could signify that Brown could be on his way out in L.A. If the price is right, the Bruins could snag the winger without giving up to much in terms of their current players.

Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli told reporters earlier this month that he was primarily focused on making "depth" moves prior to the 2012 NHL trade deadline. League sources told ESPNBoston.com that he has since changed course, and is now looking to make an impact move before Monday.
Chiarelli's initial comments came before the Bruins went 4-6 in February, and suffered injuries to Nathan Horton and Rich Peverley. Boston has $13.2 million in cap space to work with, though the pickings are somewhat slim this season. Rick Nash and Jeff Carter are the biggest names on the market, but the Columbus Blue Jackets would likely want a goaltender in return, something Boston isn't likely to give up.
Other options include forwards Ales Hemsky, Milan Hejduk, and Kyle Okposo, and defensemen Lubomir Visnovsky, Jaroslav Spacek, and Johnny Oduya. It remains to be seen whether the Bruins can make up for lost time in negotiations.

The most coveted NHL trade-bait for its Feb. 27 deadline is currently Columbus Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash, and apparently the Boston Bruins are interested in acquiring the goal-scorer, but the asking price isn't right.
According to ESPNBoston.com's Jimmy Murphy, the Bruins, who are one of just a handful of teams that were on Nash's trade-approval list, have spoken with the Blue Jackets but negotiations have started with goaltender Tuukka Rask and Boston isn't willing to part ways with him.
In his mailbag, Murphy offers a different deal:
If I was Chiarelli and wanted to make a run at Nash, I would offer David Krejci, Doug Hamilton and a first- or second-round pick. But that's just me -- it's not anything I've heard that has been offered.
Murphy also says he wouldn't be shocked if the Bruins make a run at left-winger Ray Whitney and/or his Phoenix Coyotes teammate Shane Doan.

The Boston Bruins are reportedly among the list of five teams to which Rick Nash would agree to be traded.
The Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings are also on Nash's wish list, the Columbus Dispatch reports.
Nash, the high-scoring Columbus Jackets captain, has been the center of NHL Trade Rumors in recent days amid chatter that the Blue Jackets are ready to deal. Just 27 years old, Nash has already compiled 277 career goals, 18 of them coming this season along with 21 assists.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli has noted that he would like to make a deal at the NHL Trade Deadline (Feb. 27), but he must walk a delicate tightrope between adding talent and disrupting the championship core that brought Boston last season's Stanley Cup.
The Bruins have struggled recently, especially scoring the puck, with three shutouts against them already in the month of February. Nash's natural scoring touch would surely help the B's if he did not disrupt their chemistry.
