Patrice Bergeron had two goals, and the Bruins went on to crush the New Jersey Devils 6-1 in Wednesday's night matchup in New Jersey.
Bergeron scored the only goal in the second period and proceeded to start the scoring frenzy in the third frame. Meanwhile David Krejci and Dennis Siedenberg each extended their point streak to another game and Milan Lucic had three assists.
But the Bruins didn't start the blood frenzy, and the Devils picked up the first goal of the night--their only goal. It came 4:24 in the first period after Johnny Boychuk was called for delay of game. Tim Thomas hadn't seen many shots at that point, and a 2-on-1 left him vulnerable.
And that's all the success New Jersey had.
Marty Broduer accumulated 20 saves on 26 shots, and fell to a 0-4-1 record against the Bruins in his last five starts. Meanwhile, Tim Thomas improved to 17-6-0, stopping 29-of-30 shots he faced.
Gregory Campbell, Nathan Horton, Krejci and Shawn Thornton also netted goals, including a power play goal from Horton in the first period.
The Bruins faceoff against the Calgary Flames tomorrow back in Boston. The puck drops at 7 p.m.

Just seconds after Bruins forward Nathan Horton exited the penalty box after taking a holding penalty two minutes into the new frame, Patrice Bergeron netted his eighth goal of the season to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. His breakaway fooled everyone including Marty Brodeur, and it gave the Bruins a little assurance at the get go.
The Devils were unable to answer in that period, though they managed seven shots on Tim Thomas. Both teams had a number of penalties as well, though the Bruins have shown to be the more impressive team in that aspect. In fact, the Devils have given up 12 shorthanded goals this year, despite being the best penalty kill in the league.
The Bruins only put up eight shots on Brodeur, but looked good in their own zone. Ilya Kovalchuk has three shots on net so far this game, but sits at a zero plus-minus rating--a stat that has struck many players on the Devils team.

The Boston Bruins erased a New Jersey Devils 1-0 lead with two first period goals. They lead the Devils 2-1 after the first 20 minutes of play.
New Jersey struck first with a power play goal after four and a half minutes of play. The Devils got the man advantage after Johnny Boychuk got two minutes for a delay of game after the puck went over the glass. Led by goalie Martin Brodeur, the Devils held onto the lead for another four minutes.
Devils defenseman Henrik Tallinder gave away the puck in his own zone which led to a Bruins goal by Gregory Campbell who tipped it in from 14 feet for his fourth goal of the season.
Boston got a power play at 12:36 when Tallinder shot the puck over the glass. The Bruins did not score on the power play, but Nathan Horton put the puck in the net four seconds after the man advantage expired.

The Bruins found their step late in the period, despite being down early 1-0. They came back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
The game started with a jolt and Shawn Thornton asked Cam Janssen to dance at center ice just 2:07 into the game. The fight lasted a while, mostly due to Janssen telling refs to hold of on breaking them up multiple times. Neither of the men ended seemed to have the advantage, and it was eventually broken up with both benches stick tapping their teammates.
Devils had the first power play of the game after Johnny Boychuk picked up a delay of game with 17:22 left in the period. However, with14 seconds left on the power play, the Devils struck firs. Brad Marchand tried passing back to defenseman Adam McQuaid, but ended up turning it over and giving the Devils a 2-on-1 going the other way. Zach Parise brought it into the Bruins zone and passed it flawlessly to David Clarkson who skied it past Thomas for his 15th goal of the year.
But then the Bruins came back with a vengeance, and the Devils weren't the only ones with talent on the power play.
With 11:45 left in the period, Gregory Campbell picked up a goal after deflecting an Andrew Ference shot from the blueline. That tied the game at one a piece and gave the Bruins the step they needed to continue the rally.
Five minutes later, David Krejci found Nathan Horton back door with 6:43 left in the period, after Henrik Tallinder went to the box for delay of game.
The Bruins are 1-for-1 on the power play against the best penalty killing unit in the league.

Event: Boston Bruins vs. New Jersey Devils
Date/Time: Wednesday, January 4, 2012 - 7:30 p.m. EDT.
Location: Prudential Center (Capacity: 17,625), Newark, NJ.
Broadcast Info: Wednesday's game between the Bruins and the Devils will be broadcast live on NBCSN. The game can also be heard on the 98.5 the Sports Hub Radio Network, with Dave Goucher providing play-by-play, and Bob Beers providing analysis.
Last Time Out: Tim Thomas and the Bruins faced the agony of defeat for just the fourth time in 25 games on Saturday, taking a 4-2 loss against the Dallas Stars. Milan Lucic and Tyler Seguin did both score, but it was in vain. Former Bruins forward Michael Ryder also scored, but this time it was for the other team.
Thomas put up 23 saves after letting up three goals in the first period. Saturday night’s game was only the second time this year Thomas has given up more than three goals in a single game.
The Devils were heartbroken as well, taking a 3-2 overtime loss against the Ottawa Senators on Monday. New Jersey took an early 2-0 lead in the second period, but gave up two goals in the third before finally allowing the game winner in overtime to Daniel Alfredsson.
The Devils have gone 10-3-1 since December 6, including notching three shootout wins and one overtime victory.
Storyline: Martin Broduer will get the start tonight against the Bruins and will try and get the Bruins monkey off his back. He is 0-3-1 in his last four starts against them. However, he has to go against either Thomas or Tuukka Rask tonight, both who have done remarkably well against the Devils in the recent past.
The last time these two teams faced each other was back on November 15, where the Bruins took a 4-3 win back in Boston.
Nick Palmieri scored twice in that game for the Devils, but the Bruins were able to boast four different goal scorers in that game, and Benoit Pouliot took the game winner with less than four minutes to go in the third period.
Players To Watch: The Bruins have two players that are currently holding a point streak going into tonight’s game. David Krejci has six points (2-4=6) in his last five games while teammate Dennis Seidenberg is holding his own with a three game point streak.
Seidenberg didn’t score his first goal of the season until December 23 against the Florida Panthers. He proceeded to score the game winning goal at Phoenix the following game, and tallied an assist against the Stars on Saturday.
Prediction: Both teams are in the hunt for a victory after falling in a bad effort in their last game, but I think the Bruins have the more consistent goaltender and will find a way to win their first game in 2012. Final Score: Bruins 3, Devils 1.
