Bruins' Tim Thomas Speaks For First Time Since White House Snub

Tim Thomas has broken his silence following his decision to snub an invite to the White House to accompany his team, the Boston Bruins, to their championship celebration with President Barack Obama this past Monday in Washington D.C.

Thomas, speaking after his selection to Team Chara by teammate and Bruins captain Zdeno Chara at the 2012 NHL All-Star Game Draft on Thursday night, told TSN exactly why he decided to snub the White House and make a stand.

"I followed my conscience," Thomas said. "I'm extremely grateful for all the support I've gotten from my teammates, fans, and friends. I said in my statement that was the only time I'd be addressing that topic. We're here in Ottawa to celebrate the game of hockey. I'm extremely excited to be part of that." (via Boston Globe)

Thomas issued a statement on his Facebook page after his decision to not attend the celebration, citing political reasons for his choice. Thomas said he was taking a stand against an out of control government by not going to the ceremony.
