Nathan Horton Injury: Bruins Winger Day-To-Day With Concussion

On Monday, the Boston Bruins announced that right winger Nathan Horton had sustained a 'mild concussion' and is considered day-to-day. Horton is doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Capitals.

Jan 23, 2012 - On Sunday, the Boston Bruins were able to outlast the Philadelphia Flyers by a score of 6-5 in a shootout. However, even though they got the win, it came at the expense of right winger Nathan Horton, who was forced to leave the game after a shot to the head from Flyers winger Tom Sestito.

On Monday, the Boston Bruins announced that Horton had sustained a mild concussion after being hit on Sunday by Sestito's blindside rush. While Horton is considered doubtful for Tuesday's game against the Washington Capitals, Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli says that Horton's injury isn't too serious and the team will approach his situation on a day-to-day basis.

"I don't have an official update other than I think it's a ‘mild concussion' from what I saw and heard last night - and talking to him today. These things are day-to-day so I'd say he's day-to-day. He's in that gray area between taking the impact testing and see how it is the next day and the following day. Then you make a determination. He's in that gray area right now." (via CSN New England)

The hit on Horton brings Bruins fans back to that horrible moment in the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals, when Vancouver Canucks defenceman Aaron Rome knocked out Horton in a football-like hit in the first period of Game Three. Rome was suspended for four games and Horton missed the rest of the playoffs with a concussion.

Sestito has yet to hear from the NHL about a possible suspension or fine.
