NHL All-Star Game 2012: Jon Quick Is UMass' First Ever All-Star

Jonathan Quick, a goalie for the Los Angeles Kings and a Milford, Connecticut native, was selected to play in the 2012 NHL All-Star Game on January 29 in Ottawa, ON. Quick, a graduate of UMass-Amherst, is the first-ever Minutemen alumni to be named an NHL All-Star, according to Fear The Triangle.

Quick played two seasons with the UMass Minutemen, compiling a 23-22-6 record in net. In 2005-06, Quick was 4-10-1 with a Goals Against Average (GAA) of 2.98 and a save percentage of .920. The next season, Quick went 19-12-5 and posted a 2.16 GAA with a .929 save percentage.

Quick was drafted No. 73 overall in the 2005 NHL Draft by the Kings and began his career with the Reading Royals of the ECHL, where he played 38 games and had a 23-11-3 record with a 2.79 GAA and a .905 save percentage. Quick played in 19 games with the Manchester Monarchs of the AHL in the 2007-08 season but was promoted to the Kings later that year. In three games with Los Angeles in 2007-08, Quick was 1-2 with a 3.84 GAA and an .855 save percentage.

The next year began in similar fashion for Quick, who played 14 games with the Monarchs (6-5-2; 2.68 GAA, .919 save percentage). However, Quick received another shot with the Kings, and that's when he became a mainstay.

Quick was 21-18 in his first full season with a 2.48 GAA and a .914 save percentage in 44 games in 2008-09. The next season, Quick posted a 39-24 mark (2.54 GAA, .907 save percentage) in a career-high 72 games and followed that up with a 35-22 season in 2010-11 (2.24 GAA, .918 save percentage).

Through 35 games this year, Quick is 18-11-6 with a 1.93 GAA and a .934 save percentage.
