Bruins Vs. Lightning: Tim Thomas 'Just As Comfortable' As First Game

BOSTON - Tim Thomas had a stellar night in net for the Boston Bruins, turning away 25 of the 26 shots he faced as the Boston Bruins bested the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1, in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference Finals to claim their first win since beating the Vancouver Canucks in Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final.

Thomas, who had 27 saves on 29 shots in the opener against the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday evening at TD Garden, said that he didn't feel any more comfortable tonight than he did in the team's first game.

"No, I felt just as comfortable the first night," said Thomas. "These are both teams that we played during the playoffs, so semi familiar with them, even though there's some new faces on both teams, both general systems are the same. I felt comfortable right off the bat the other night and I felt good tonight. The team had a good game in front of me tonight, too. They put out a lot of shots on goal, found ways to get pucks in the net, great penalty killing. A lot of good efforts out there all over the place."

Bruins 4, Lightning 1: Rich Peverley, B's Capture First Win Of Season

BOSTON - Rich Peverley scored his first and second goals of the season as the Boston Bruins defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, 4-1, in a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Finals to secure their first win of the season on Saturday night at TD Garden.

"I thought our line played with speed, and we were shooting a lot more tonight, and I think it paid off," said Peverley, whose Bruins outshot Tampa Bay, 42-26. "We got some good results."

Boston (1-1-0) kept pressure on Tampa Bay (1-1-0) throughout most of the game, as evident by the large difference in total shots. Both teams had 16 penalty minutes, the Bruins had 18 hits to the Lightning's 14 but Tampa Bay held a 33-32 edge in faceoffs won.

Peverley scored the game's first goal at 2:04 in the second period, assisted by Brad Marchand and Johnny BoychukMartin St. Louis scored his 300th career goal at 3:20 in the second, assisted by Ryan Malone and Vincent Lecavalier, to tie the score at 1-1. Daniel Paille then scored on a redirect off a shot from Adam McQuaid (also assisted by Tyler Seguin) to put Boston on top 2-1, a lead that would hold through the end of the second period.

David Krejci scored the B's third goal of the night, assisted by Milan Lucic and Seguin, at 3:07 in the third period and Peverley added his second and final goal at 8:43 on assists from Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand to give Boston its fourth and final goal to secure its first win of the regular season.

Tim Thomas was spectacular in net, stopping 25 of 26 shots for Boston while Mathieu Garon had 38 saves on 42 shots in the loss for Tampa Bay.

Boston hosts the Colorado Avalanche in its third game on Monday night at TD Garden.

Bruins Vs. Lightning: Boston, Tampa Bay Scoreless After First Period

BOSTON - In a rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals from one year ago, the Boston Bruins are hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning in their second game of the 2011 regular season, and neither team has been able to find the back of the net after one period here at TD Garden.

Boston had 15 shots in the first period while holding Tampa Bay to nine in the first period. Both teams had three penalties in the opening 20 minutes, with all of which were minors for two minutes. Tim Thomas made a couple of terrific saves and finished the first half with nine saves while Mathieu Garon had 15 saves.

The B's controlled the tempo right from the start, keeping the pressure on the Lightning, who did not record a shot in the first ten minutes of play. Both teams leveled out in the final 10 minutes, but to no avail.
