Northeastern vs. Bentley final score: Falcon offense explodes in 3rd, wins 6-3

BOSTON - NCAA Division I hockey's most prolific offense struck gold in the third period as the Bentley Falcons exploded in the third period to propel ahead of the host Northeastern Huskies for good, skating to a 6-3 victory on Saturday at Matthews Arena in Boston.

Despite defeat, NU was able to out-shoot the opponent for just the fifth time this season, keeping a 48-32 advantage, including 18-12 in the final period.

The Huskies fell to 6-10-1 on the season, as they were unable to follow an impressive 5-1 victory over Harvard last Saturday with a second in a row against a non-league foe from the state of Massachusetts. On the flip side, the Falcons redeemed themselves from a late loss in Lowell last Sunday by improving to 7-9-1.

After losing much of the momentum by allowing two late goals in the second period, the Huskies came back with a pair of quick goals of their own to tie the game in the first eight minutes of the final stanza.

Just 0:53 into the proceedings on a new sheet of ice, junior Cody Ferriero used a bit of puck luck to get his second of the contest, bouncing a puck off the shoulder of Bentley junior Branden Komm and into the net along the right post.

Junior Robbie Vrolyk beat Komm on a second-chance backhander at the 5:14 mark to knot the score, fighting for a loose puck on the crease for his fifth goal of the season.

The Falcons jumped back on top very quickly as rookie Derek Bacon flipped a loose puck under the five-hole of NU senior Chris Rawlings at 7:27, before senior Brett Hartung netted his second of the contest 10:51 in with a great effort off a pass from junior linemate Andrew Fitzstephens.

To ice the game, junior Zach Marginsky posted his first-collegiate goal from center ice with 1:50 left in regulation.
