Darko Milicic focused on the present with Boston Celtics

Darko Milicic's career numbers won't knock you out of your seat. Nine years into his career, Milicic has averaged just 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds. Nevertheless, that didn't stop the Boston Celtics from taking a chance.

Darko Milicic's career numbers won't knock you out of your seat. Nine years into his career, Milicic has averaged just 6.0 points and 4.2 rebounds in 467 games. Those aren't exactly the numbers one would expect from a former No. 2 overall pick, who just happened to be drafted ahead of Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

With that being the case, it shouldn't come as a surprised that the Minnesota Timberwolves cut him loose via the amnesty clause in the new CBA this offseason, making it seem like Milicic's career in the U.S. might be over.

Instead, the Boston Celtics decided to take a chance on the former high draft pick, but Milicic knows that his days of trying to live up to that status are gone.

"I did make some mistakes in my career, but it is what it is right now. I'm here right now," said Milcic. I'm going to do my best to stay here, fight for my position.

"For me, I stopped chasing the dream of being a second pick a long time ago. All I was asking my teams that I played with is if they'd let me be the best that I can be."

Milicic will have an uphill battle to do so. With fellow bigs Kevin Garnett, Brandon Bass, Chris Wilcox, Jason Collins and rookies Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo on the roster, Milicic will have to stand outperform all just to secure some playing time.

"I'm going to do my best to get my minutes, but right now it's not about me, it's about the team," Milicic said.
