New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been fined $50,000 by the National Football League for making what it labeled "impermissible physical contact" with an official following Sunday night's 31-30 loss to the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium, the league announced on Wednesday.
Belichick has since explained that he was trying to get an explanation for a call, a game-winning Ravens field goal that appeared to miss over the top right goalpost. However, Belichick said earlier on Wednesday that he would willingly accept whatever fine or punishment the league handed down.
The $50,000 fine marks the largest of the year from the league and comes days after the NFL fined Denver Broncos head coach John Fox $30,000 and Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $25,000 after berating officials during last Monday's game against the Atlanta Falcons.
The good news is that Belichick was not suspended, as some had anticipated.
