When the 2012 Ryder Cup begins play on Friday at Medinah Country Club in Medinah, Illinois, Team Europe captain Jose Maria Olazabal will lead a group highlighted by some of Europe's most talented golfers.

The team was selected by taking the top five players on the European points list, which includes European Tour events ranging from Sept. 1, 2011, to the Johnnie Walker Championship that concluded on Aug. 26, 2012. In addition, the top five players on the Ryder Cup worlds points list were added to the team, which compiles points earned in Official World Golf Ranking events ranging from the same time period as was listed above. Finally, two players are designated as captain's picks, which Olazabal selects himself.

Some of the notable players on the roster include Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood, Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy and Sergio Garcia. Darren Clarke, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Paul McGinley and Thomas Bjorn will act as vice-captains to Olazabal.
