UConn Vs. Maryland Final Score: Huskies Edge Out Wolfpack, 24-21

Chandler Whitmer again had trouble getting the UConn Huskies offense going through the air, but the ground game and special teams play of the Huskies bailed him out on the way to a 24-21 win over the Maryland Terrapins on Saturday afternoon in College Park, MD.

UConn (2-1) scored the first two touchdowns of the game, with Nick Williams returning a 49-yard punt from Nathan Renfro for a 58-yard score in the first quarter. Scott McCummings made it 14-0 in favor of the Huskies with his three-yard touchdown scamper at 12:35 in the second quarter. Wes Brown (74 rushing yards) puts the Terps (2-1) on the board roughly two minutes later with a 19-yard rush. UConn led Maryland, 14-7, entering the intermission.

Chad Christen's 34-yard field goal accounted for the only points of the third quarter, putting UConn on top 17-7 with one quarter to play. Perry Hills (11-for-25, 121 passing yards, INT) found Stefon Diggsfor a 29-yard touchdown pass with 14:07 to go in the fourth, making it a three-point game. Lyle McCombs (94 rushing yards, 28 carries) scored on an 11-yard touchdown run at 8:05, pushing UConn up 24-14. Hills would later rush for a 10-yard touchdown, again making it a three-point deficit, but Maryland couldn't come any closer.

UConn takes on the Western Michigan Broncos at Waldo Stadium next Saturday.
