Ana Ivanovic, the No. 12 seed, advanced to the third round of the 2012 U.S. Open Thursday, as she easily defeated Sofia Arvidsson, 6-2, 6-2, in a second-round match at Arthur Ashe Stadium. Ivanovic moves onto face the winner of Sloane Stephens and Tatjana Malek.
Other women's matches to go final on Day 4 are:
- Maria Kirilenko def. Greta Arn, 6-3, 6-2
- Jelena Jankovic def. Lara Arruabarrena, 6-4, 6-2
- Dominika Cibulkov def. Bojana Jovanovski, 7-6, 7-6
Later on, around 2:30 p.m. ET, No. 4 Serena Williams plays Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez. In primetime, around 9 p.m., No. 6 Angelique Kerber squares off against Venus Williams.
Meanwhile, on the men's side Kei Nishikori knocked off Tim Smyczek, 6-2 6-2, 6-4, in a second-round contest. No. 1 Roger Federer plays at 7 p.m. against Bjorn Phau.
