U.S. Open 2012 Results: Maria Sharapova, John Isner Advance

On Wednesday at the 2012 U.S. Open in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., all the usual suspects moved on to the next round as expected.

On the women's side of the draw, No. 3 Maria Sharapova made quick work of Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 6-0, 6-1. Sharapova was completely dominant, as the score indicates, and will face Mallory Burdette in the third round.

Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka also won her match in an easy fashion, 6-2, 6-1, against Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium. Azarenka doesn't have a pushover next on her schedule, however, as she's due to face No. 28 Jie Zheng.

As for the men, 10th-seeded John Isner was impressive in a tough match versus Xavier Malisse. The lanky American controlled the day with his serve and took the match in four sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 7-6 (11-9).

The highest seed to be taken out was No. 21 Tommy Haas, who capitulated to Ernests Gulbis in five sets. The unranked Latvian shocked the experts with a 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 victory.
