Tour de France 2012 Results: Peter Sagan Wins His Third Stage, Extends Green Jersey Lead

Peter Sagan of Slovakia was able to hold off Germany's Andre Greipel in a sprint to win his third stage in the 2012 Tour de France. Matt Goss of Australia came in third. A big wreck held up the race and collected Britain's Mark Cavendish, among others. The win allowed Sagan to extend his green jersey lead. He now has 209 points. Goss has 178 points while Greipel has 167.

The 208-kilometer (129-mile) stage from Épernay to Metz was the last flat stage before the race enters the mountains.

Overall, Fabian Cancellara continues to hang on to the yellow jersey. Sagan's win has him in eighth behind Cancellara by 19 seconds. American Tejay van Garderen remains in fourth place and 10 seconds behind Cancellara.
