Olympics Opening Ceremony 2012: Schedule, Flag Bearers And More

The 2012 Olympic Games get started on Friday with the Opening Ceremony.

The 2012 Summer Olympics are less than 24 hours from getting away. The entire world will watch to see if London can compete with the splendor and majesty of the 2008 Beijing games.

Directing the opening ceremony is filmmaker Danny Boyle, who directed flims such as Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting.

The ceremony begins with Queen Elizabeth II is received by IOC president Jacque Rogge at the entrance of the Olympic Stadium. After that, the parade of athletes go through the stadium before the ceremony ends with the torch ceremony which will be the official start to the games.

The honor of being the flag bearer for the United States goes to Mariel Zagunis, the two-time defending gold medalist at the women's sabre. There was a stalemate on who would be the flag bearer, but after four rounds of voting, someone made the switch and Zagunis was chosen.

Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy was named of being named the flag bearer for Great Britain.
