Women's Gymnastics Balance Beam Results: USA's Aly Raisman Earns Bronze Medal After Successful Appeal To Score

Karma has a way of finding its way into the fold of things, even at the 2012 Olympic games and women's gymnastics.

Less than a week after having a bronze medal taken away from her by a Russian gymnast because of an appeal, Team USA member Aly Raisman had the reverse fortune Tuesday after an appeal to her overall balance beam score was accepted. A tiebreaker helped Raisman surpass Romania's Catalina Ponor and earn her first ever individual medal.

Initially, the native of Needham, Ma. was slotted to finish in fourth place, however, Raisman's coach filed an appeal to have her degree of difficulty adjusted. The appeal was successful, much like the reversal in the all-around competition that featured Russia's Aliya Mustafina taking bronze away from Raisman.

Raisman's overall score of 15.066 finished behind China's Deng Linlin (15.600) and Sui Lu (15.500), who won gold and silver, respectively.
