2012 British Open Leaderboard: Adam Scott Holds The Lead

It's a pretty safe bet that when you tie a course record, you're probably looking down the leaderboard instead of up.

That line of thinking held true on Thursday, when Adam Scott took care of business at Round 1 of the 2012 British Open at Royal Lytham and St. Annes. The Australian shot a 6-under 64, giving him sole possession of the lead and that aforementioned course record. Scott is one shot ahead of Zach Johnson, Nicolas Colsaerts and Paul Lawrie, who are all done for the day.

Tiger Woods played brilliantly and looks to be a real factor once again. He was able to navigate the course and wind up 3-under, positioning himself well for a customary run. Woods is currently tied for fifth.

Phil Mickelson had a tough time on the soggy playing surface, ending Thursday afternoon with a 3-over and just one hole remaining to fill on his scorecard. Rory McIlroy has played himself right into the thick of the race with a 3-under. He's now contently watching the action finish up from the clubhouse.

As for the local sensation, the Woodstock, VT, native Keegan Bradley was playing great until he had issues on the back nine, ending his day 1-over and seven shots behind Scott.
