Chris Carpenter Injury Update: Red Sox Pitcher Gets Rehab Assignment With Double-A Portland

Injured Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Carpenter has gotten his rehab assignment in Double-A Portland, according to a report (via Pete Abraham).

Carpenter, a right-handed reliever, was acquired by the Red Sox from the Chicago Cubs as compensation for former Boston general manager Theo Epstein. Carpenter had surgery during the spring to remove a bone spur from his throwing elbow. He only threw two innings during Spring Training before the surgery.

Carpenter pitched in 10 games for the Cubs in his rookie season in 2011 and had a 2.79 ERA in 9.2 innings.
