Former Connecticut Huskies defensive tackle Kendall Reyes has been selected in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the San Diego Chargers, the No. 49-overall pick. Reyes, a native of Nashua, N.H., becomes the 23rd draft pick in the history of the UConn program, which moved to the Football Bowl Subdivision as recently as 2002. He also becomes just the Huskies' second first rounder ever -- Donald Brown was taken with the No. 27 pick by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2009 draft.

As a senior last fall, the 6-foot-4 Reyes earned All-Big East Conference First Team honors for the second straight season after compiling 4.5 sacks and 13.5 tackles for losses in addition to 46 total tackles. Reyes served as the Huskies captain for both his junior and senior seasons, while tallying a total of 85 tackles.

Perhaps, most will remember him for playing a key role on the Huskies' run to the BCS in 2010, earning an appearance in the Fiesta Bowl against Big 12 power Oklahoma.
