Just when you thought things couldn't get any worse for Bobby Jenks, the beleaguered Red Sox reliever was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning in Lee County on charges including DUI, destruction of property, and leaving the scene of an accident.
↵Jenks has publically struggled with alcohol in the past, and appeared to have quit drinking altogether a couple years back. At some point, however, he appears to have fallen back on old, bad habits. He now faces an April 9 trial date as a result.
↵While the MLB has been embarrassingly lax on these sorts of offenses (see: Cabrera, Miguel), it's not beyond imagining that the Sox could come down hard on Jenks themselves. After the alcohol-related controversies of the offseason, Bobby Valentine may find Jenks an easy--and more importantly expendable--target to be made an example of.
↵In an unfortunate coincidence, Tampa Bay's Matt Bush was also arrested last night while driving under the influence after a collision with a motorcyclist.
