America East Championship 2012: Vermont Defeats Stony Brook, Earns NCAA Bid

The Vermont Catamounts defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves in the 2012 America East Championship Game on Saturday, earning an automatic bid for the 2012 NCAA Tournament.

Vermont pulled off the slight upset, being the two seed against the one seed, but had already defeated the Seawolves once this season. They were led by Four McGlynn, who poured in a game-high 14 points off the bench, including five three pointers and Brian Voelkel, who grabbed 15 boards, dished out seven assists and scored five points while attempting only one field goal.

The Catamounts held Stony Brook to just 29 percent shooting, while outscoring them by nine from beyond the arch and three from the free throw line.

Vermont will now play in their fifth NCAA Tournament in school history, where they are 1-4 all-time. They will likely be a 16 seed.
