Boston College's Steve Donahue, Brad Bates extend condolences to Newtown, CT victims

CHESTNUT HILL - Instead of jumping right into game analysis, Boston College Eagles head coach Steve Donahue took a few moments to share his thoughts on and extend his condolences to the victims of the horrific mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday that saw 26 people murdered, including 20 children.

"I think before I talk about the game, I think like all of us in this country right now, [I] just have a heavy heart for what happened Friday in Newtown, Connecticut," Donahue said. "A lot of things go through our heads. It was just very difficult for me personally, as well as I'm sure all of you, to think about what went on and then play. Kids are different, but obviously adults take this stuff -- My condolences go out to everybody involved in that incident. I don't have answers, I'm just really sad like everybody else."

On the day of the tragedy, newly hired Boston College Director of Athletics Brad Bates extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the shooting.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the parents, families and friends of those killed and wounded in today's tragedy in Connecticut," Bates wrote in a Tweet.
