The New England Patriots plan to honor the victims of the Newton school shooting on Sunday.

The New England Patriots plan to to honor the victims of the Newtown school shooting during their game Sunday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

The team will wear black-ribbon logos on their helmet as a tribute to the 26 victims, and will light 26 flares during a moment of silence of before the game.

New England considers Newtown part of their fan base, and felt directly connected to the tragedy.

The owners of the Patriots, the Kraft family, own Rand-Whitney, a box company that has a factory less than one mile from Sandy Hook Elementary school.

The factory parking lot served as a meeting area for members of the media after the tragedy, a Patriots official confirmed over the weekend.

The New York Giants have also planned a tribute to the victims of the shooting. The team will have the school's initials, S.H.E.S, written on their helmets in their game against the Atlanta Falcons.
