Boston College vs. Wake Forest 2012: Fans call for Frank Spaziani to be fired after loss

The Boston College Eagles lost to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons Saturday, 28-14, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game at Groves Stadium. The loss was the Eagles' sixth in seven games, and has put head coach Frank Spaziani in the crosshairs of a lot of criticism.

According to the SB Nation blog BC Interruption, the Boston College athletic department, led by new athletic director Brad Bates, should fire Spaziani before next Saturday's contest against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

But make no mistake, the energy and enthusiasm surrounding the program and this weekend's game is at a new recent low.

So why wait until Monday, November 26? Bates has now had a few weeks to assess the situation and crunch the numbers. The football program has gotten so bad that every day this drags on, the more fans and long-time season ticket holders are going to turn their backs on this program.

If Bates were to fire Spaziani now BC Interruption believes the message sent would be a clear one.

Let the rebuilding process begin now, so that we can take some joy in watching our football program take it on the chin against the 9-0 Irish with the knowledge and hope that better days are ahead.

Read the complete BC Interruption column here.

Next Saturday, Boston College will visit South Bend, Ind. to take on unbeaten Notre Dame. The game time has yet to be determined but it will be broadcasted on ABC.

The rest of the Eagles schedule features the Virginia Tech Hokies, Nov. 17, and N.C. State Wolfpack, Nov. 24.

Boston College vs. Wake Forest final score: Eagles miss the mark again, lose 28-14

Chase Rettig piled up 357 passing yards but tossed three interceptions as the Boston College Eagles found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard for the seventh time this season, losing to the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, 28-14, on Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Deacs opened the game with two first-quarter touchdowns, but the Eagles cut their deficit in half on Rettig's first touchdown pass of the day, a 16-yard strike to Alex Amidon (130 yards, 10 catches). Wake Forest tacked on a third first-half touchdown, also wide receiver Michael Campanaro's third score of the first half, to go up 21-7 at the break. Rettig found Chris Pantale for a 12-yard touchdown with 8:35 left in the third quarter, making things interesting, but the Demon Deacons sealed the deal on Josh Harris' 23-yard touchdown run with 2:36 left in the third.

Tanner Price threw for 293 yards and had three touchdowns and an interception for Wake Forest. Campanaro had 123 receiving yards and three scores and Smith Harris rushed for 84 yards and the lone score. The Deacs' defense held the Eagles to 12 net rushing yards, and David Dudeck had 32 yards on 14 carries to lead BC.

The Eagles' loss made them ineligible for a bowl game for the second straight season. Boston College hosts its bitter rival Notre Dame next Saturday night on national television.

Boston College vs. Wake Forest score: Eagles trail 14-0 after first quarter

Quarterback Chase Rettig has already thrown two interceptions and completed just six passes for 68 yards so far. The Eagles have run the ball two times for a loss of five yards.

Tanner Price has been great for the Demon Deacons, going 11-for-20 for 96 yards and two touchdown scores. He connected with Michael Companaro on the team's second drive of the game for a five-yard touchdown strike. Price then hit Campanaro again, this time from 27 yards out to make the score 14-0.
