UConn takes 10-0 lead over Louisville at half

Looking to play spoiler, the UConn Huskies are shutting out the Louisville Cardinals, 10-0, after one half in Kentucky. The Cardinals have a shot to clinch a share of the Big East, but the Huskies defense clamped down in the first half to create the double-digit lead as both teams went to the locker room. The Cardinals have fewer than 90 yards of total offense and are just two-of-seven on third down.

UConn got on the board first with Chad Christen splitting the uprights from 39 yards out early in the first quarter. The field goal capped an eight-play, 51-yard drive that was heavy on the rush with Lyle McCombs doing most of the work. The Huskies then found the end zone on their first possession of the second quarter on another sustained drive. Nick Williams broke through from three yards out to push the lead to 10.

McCombs is averaging nearly five yards-per-carry, and has already rushed it 13 times against the Cards. There may not be much help coming on the offensive side of the ball for Louisville, as quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is reportedly headed in for X-rays at the half.
